Samples of artwork by Molly McClurg

When making art, I am inspired by exploring and reporting the sensorial vs. scientific.
I am guided by the question: What can the artist offer to science that is different from biology or ecology, yet complementary.

About Me
I am from the city of Austin, Texas, along the (Texas) Colorado River, among the ashe juniper trees and prickly pear cactus.

I received a BA in Studio Arts and Graphic Design, have worked as a print and digital graphic designer, a ux designer and researcher, and most recently a Professor of Visual Communication at Austin Community College.

Values that influence my art and work are:

  • I aim to make the opaque more transparent through simple language, prioritizing lived experiences, and communicating visually.

  • I aim to share information that is traditionally not accessible due to location, affordability, technology, or lack of clear organization.

  • I aim to integrate information and experiences from traditionally separated disciplines.

Artists and practitioners who have taught me and influenced my work are:

  • Miriam Weber, Sister Palm

  • Joe Walsh, Berlin Art Institute

  • Stephanie Martin, Austin Community College

  • Emily May, Decadent West

  • Marc English, Marc English Design

  • Heather Saba, The Sacred Pause

  • Lexi Hughes, Buzz in the Hills
